Penjelasan:
Ketiga tenses ini mengandung kata "continuous" (berkelanjutan/terus-menerus) yang mengandung makna bahwa yang dikerjakan itu masih berlangsung.
Dalam Past continuous tense, kondisi masih berlangsung itu dilihat pada suatu titik di masa lampau. (Dalam contoh si atas adalah "when my mother came home last night" (ketika ibuku pulang tadi malam). Jadi kalimat ini bermakna bahwa ketika ibu pulang tadi malam, saya sedang menonton film . Jadi kegiatan menonton itu masih berlangsung ketika ibu pulang, tadi malam (masa lampau)
Dalam Present continuous tense, kondisi masih berlangsung itu dilihat pada suatu titik masa kini atau sekarang (yaitu pada titik waktu ketika sipenutur mengucapkan kata ini).
Contoh kalimat di atas: Our school principal is giving his speech at the moment. (kepala sekolah saat ini sedang berpidato).
Skenarionya misalnya kamu sedang ada di sekolah mendengarkan pidato kepala sekolah, lalu kamu ditelpon mama, lalu kamu bilang "Mom, our school principal is giving his speech at the moment"
Dalam Future continuous tense, kita membayangkan/memperkirakan bahwa di satu titik waktu di masa depan sesuatu sedang terjadi/dikerjakan.
Dalam contoh di atas: I will be preparing the report by the time you arrive tomorrow moring.
Artinya besok pagi pas waktu kamu tiba, saya akan sedang melakukan sesuatu yaitu menyiapkan laporan.
